My cat (male) has recently just stared to pee in the corner of our house by the door where he is let out in the morning (living a basement suite). We came back from a 5 day trip to find that he had peed on the baseboards surrounding the door. We cleaned it but can still smell it, even though he has been fixed it still smells a bit more than just pee. He keeps going to the same spots every night, and pees on the side of the wall. We had to lay down plastic and a sheet to keep him form getting it in the carpet, but he is still trying to pee on the wall. Every time we find the pee in the sheet or the carpet we shove his face into the mess to get his pee all over his face and growl at him to make sure he understands, then we take him to the litter box and tell him this is where he goes pee, not in the hallway. He stills uses the litter box during the day, but at night he will pee in the hall by the door. He has been living with us for over a year and we haven't had a problem with him. This has been going on for more than a week, and im getting tired of waking up to the smell of pee.
