Why did my hair quantity reduced to 1/4th?

Carpet Floors - the soft and comfortable side of living.

Hello everybody. I am an asian and I've been staying in England since two years. I am having severe hairfall since past 8 months. I see my hair strands everywhere, in the sink, on the carpet, on the floor, on om sheets and pillow, on my coat, bags, shoes and even in food. I know it's disgusting and embarassing. Whereever I go I leave a trail of hair behind me. I went to local GP and had my blood test done. Everything was normal and she was not able to find any particular reason. All she told me was that I might be pulling my hair..lol what a crazy idea. My situation has worsened, my hair falls even if I touch it. I tried changing shampoos and reduced washing my hair. I wash it no more than twice a week. I was under a lot of pressure due to studies three months back but now that my studies are over, the hair loss still remains :( Is it due to hard water here or lack of vitamins or any other reason. Please please help me :(
@ BigGrilla: I am already taking Holland and Berets multivitamin for skin, hair and nails. My hair was a little longer than my waist a month back but I've chopped them to shoulder length. Even my hairdresser asked me thrice if I wanted such short hair :( I don't color/perm my hair nor have I used any hair product(other than shampoo/conditioner) on my hair. I don't use straightener also.
