When I was at school (late 80s/early 90s) bullying was pretty much ignored by our school. I remember being pulled off a chair by my hair and kicked on the floor by one particularly vicious, nasty little chav b*tch, a teacher witnessed the attack and yet nothing was done, it was just brushed under the carpet. I remember seeing children who'd been attacked by other pupils with bloody noses, black eyes and all sorts and yet there was never any action taken, it was just seen as "kids playing about" and pretty much brushed under the carpet. Admittedly my school was a little on the rough side . . .
I wonder what has changed, my son is only three but I worry about what school environments (particularly high school) are like these days and if the teachers are actually interested in on-site violence or bullying. Personally, I would nto stand for it - if my son was attacked by another pupil on school premises and the school did nothing I would want to get the police involved and also remove him from that school in the interests of his personal safety, but in "my day" there was never any support for this sort of action and parents who did were accused of over-reacting.
