What diseases or parasites does a blue tit carry?

Carpet Floors - the soft and comfortable side of living.

I returned home from a weekend away to find that a blue tit had made its way down my chimney and into my living room. I opened the window at once and it flew away however it had made quite a mess in terms of droppings around the room. I have cleaned it all up as best as I can but I am worried that there might be bacteria or parasites (like lice, fleas or mites) left behind in the sofas or carpet. I have two small children and I am worried about them coming in contact with these things. Please can you advise if I am worrying unnecessarily or if I should clean further by sanitising or using some sort of pesticide in the room.
Thank you spiderman for giving me that information - yes I really wanted to know that! An online search on Cedratophyllus gallinae, also known as the hen flea, has told me that this type of flea only lives in the nest of the bird. It hops onto the small birds like the blue tit when it returns to the nest. This is when it feeds off the bird for short periods of time - it doesn't live off the bird when it is on the move. Would you be inclined to believe this? As another contributor said it is best not to go down the route of using pesticides in the home if at all possible.
