We believe our Letting Agent is entering our property without our permission, what can we do?

Carpet Floors - the soft and comfortable side of living.

We are two students having just moved into our home rented from a lesser known and possibly questionable letting agent 1 month ago. The place was filthy and in a terrible state when we moved in -after days of cleaning it has become somewhat tenatable but there is still significant floor damage and gaps in the wall next to the shower, chunks out of the kitchen worktop, cigarette burns in the carpet etc (one of the locks on our front door is broken and they haven't fixed it yet). Apparently the previous tenants were awful and caused a lot of damage.

Anyway, we arrived in our furnished property without oven shelves -they had been ordered and only arrived yesterday. The agent called and asked if we would be in so they could drop them off, or if they were allowed to simply enter with keys. I did not (and will never give) permission for any agents or workmen to enter our flat with keys, as my flatmate was in all day so I had them call her instead.
The agent turned up with his own keys to let himself into the flat but my flatmate's keys were in the door so she had to open it anyway, but he told they can enter the property whenever they like because they own it.

My concern here is that our letting agent supposedly thinks they can enter our home even when we aren't in and have not given them permission to do so. I am now also concerned that they will do this as they please.

There is nothing in the tenancy agreement saying that they are able to do this, and it is listed under the landlord's responsibilities that they "allow the Tenant(s) peaceably to hold and enjoy the Property during the Term without lawful interruption from the Landlord or any other person appointed by the Landlord." It is also specified that they give us at least 24 hours notice.

I believe that they are breaching this clause in the contract and our privacy upon entering our flat and I am making a formal complaint.

If it happens again, what can we do?

I live in Scotland where legal aid is given where required so the fact that we are students in absolutely no way hinders our ability to take legal action.
