Carter sat in a tree-house near the house. The sun was shining brighter then usual that day. The grass was a beautiful sheet of emerald-green, the same color of Carter?s eyes. There was a small wind-chill that made Carter?s chestnut-brown hair flow to the side peacefully.
Carter sometimes referred to the tree-house as her home. She slept out there a lot of times. It had everything that she needed.
There was a small, slate roof that covered her head. There were two windows on the sides that could close easily with the curtains. When Carter climbed the rope up the tree-house she could pull the rope up so no one could get up there while she was up there. The walls and floor was made of oak wood. There was an elegant, red carpet shaped like a circle in the middle of the room. Bookshelves we against one wall filled with books. One sleeping bag with comfortable pillows were in the opposite corner. A miniature refrigerator stood nearby the sleeping bag along with some snacks. There was also a light weight desk to the opposite side of the miniature refrigerator with a backpack beside it and pencils, pens, and erasers. In the only corner left stood a light weight sofa and a telescope pointing toward the closed window.
Carter loved her tree-house. The tree-house was her only place to hide and survive. The only place to call her own. Her parents acted weird around her, but they never talked about it. Usually Carter would almost never go into her room in the actual house. Monday through Friday, Carter would grab her backpack and walk to school which was a few blocks away. She had to start early or she would be late.
?Hey!? Carter looked around suspiciously.
?Who?s there?? asked Carter protectively. She stood up.
?Down here!? called the voice again. Carter looked out the door and saw her best friend, Bailey. Bailey looked up laughing. ?Well? Can I come up?? she asked.
?Wait one second.? said Carter. A moment later she was anchoring down the rope so Bailey could climb up. After a few minutes, Bailey climbed into the room pulling the rope up.
?Wow! Nice exercise of the day.? laughed Bailey even more.
?Yup. That?ll do the trick,? Carter said laughing with Bailey. ?So what?d you need?? Carter asked Bailey becoming a bit more serious.
?Oh! I have great news! Adam?s single again! You can finally be together!? Bailey said happily, yet quietly.
?Bailey?I know I have a crush on him, but we?re only ten years old! In fifth grade, you shouldn?t date.? said Carter.
?Ok?? said Bailey sounding as if Carter was going to regret it.
?Anyways?Bailey do you believe in magic?? Carter asked randomly.
?I don?t know?? said Bailey awkwardly.
?I do,? said Carter. ?But I can?t show you if you don?t believe.?
?Ok, ok. I believe.? said Bailey eagerly.
?Well?alright.? said Carter. ?I know of a place called Cent Cave. We need to get there to get a key. There?s thousands of keys, crystals, and creatures there. We?ll need more help then this.?
?Wait, wait, wait. A key for what?? asked Bailey slowing down.
?A key for the next half of the book I?m reading. You see, I read the introduction, but I need the key to get to the rest of the book. We have no directions so we?re going blinded. We?ll need more people to help, a map to know where we?re going, and supplies.? explained Carter.
?Let me see this book?? said Bailey suspiciously.
?Alright.? said Carter going to one bookshelf and taking out a book with a navy-blue, leather covered hard-back. Carter opened to the first page where it said:
HELLO ALL WHO READ THIS BOOK. MY NAME IS KATIE AND I WILL GUIDE YOU IF YOU CAN FIND THE KEY TO THE NEXT INTRODUCTION. MORE INFORMATION WILL BE ADDED WITHIN EACH STEP YOU TAKE. FIND DIRECTIONS AND FIND THE KEY, IF YOU DO NOT, YOU WILL NOT FIND THE SECRETS THAT HIDE BEYOND THIS BOOK.
Carter and Bailey felt like someone was actually reading this to them through their minds. Once out of the daze, Carter put the book back where she found it.
?See?? asked Carter.
