I need to remove the carpet tiles that were installed in my kitchen ( I know such tiles in a kitchen are probaboly a bad idea, but they were here when I arrived.) They look as if they have been glued down (but I'm not sure) and I think it will take a lot of time and effort to remove them. If by the time I have finished removing them I shall want a long ( or even permanent ) break from flooring work, what are the pros and cons of just leaving the bare original wooden floor open to the elements, as it was when the house was first completed? (There would be no problem with my buying a good quality mat of some sort to cover a good part of it . ( And I'd be grateful for any suggestions as to the best type of mat to go for.) By the way, there is some oilcloth-type covering, instead of the carpet tiles, running for a couple of feet or so in front of the sink and washing machine area, and I might be able to leave that in place , although it is at least 15 years old by now. Replacing it would involve the moving of the washing machine and freezer temporarily with all the hassle that would involve - I'm getting on a bit now and I dont like hassle ! In case it matters, I live in a semi-detached bungalow built in 1969 , so I should imagine the wooden floor is the type used in most such properties at that time. ( I live alone and have no pets by the way. ) Thanks for any suggestions.
