Taking Landlord To Court Good idea?

Carpet Floors - the soft and comfortable side of living.

Hi,

Our landlord is demanding money for some slight damage to carpet from our cat which is only small and the rest of the place we looked after so well and cleaned it immacuately when we left and replaced lots of things in the flat.
Our landlord came to view the place and said everything was fine and that we would get our depoit back this week he has now emailed saying we cant have it all back due to carpet. He said our money was being held through the tenancy deposit scheme which we have found out by contacting them that he didnt put it through them. I emailed the landlord to say he has broken the law as this law came in to action in 2007.
I advised to landlord to pay us full depoist back or we would go to county court and complete an application against him where we may be able to get the full money back and maybe 3 times the deposit back. He has replied saying he isnt paying the full amount back.
Just want some advice has anyone gone through county court to do this before? and have they got their money back and more?

Just want to know before I pay out to take him to court.

Thanks
