Sound of water dripping, but....?

Carpet Floors - the soft and comfortable side of living.

Live in a flat with 2 flats above me.

Since last Friday (around midnight), have been hearing water dripping, but my ceiling is dry and carpets etc also dry.No paint peeling or damp patches on the ceiling.

The noise is always in the morning: could start 1am or 3.30am (like last night). You get maybe a minute of what sounds like 'heavy rain against a window', then it could be quiet for 2 hours, before the next 'session'.

Have had various leaks from above over the years, which they don't know about as they have a wooden floor (their carpet would be wet otherwise). If it was the top floor flat that was leaking, it would show up in the flat above me.

There's a plumber coming around tomorrow afternoon to check the upstairs flat. There are no pipes within 10-15 feet and the dripping seems to come from an archway between my litchen and living area (all the flats have the same layout). The flat under me hasn't seen any leaks etc.

It's driving me nuts and am not sleeping because of it. Any advice?

Thanks
Gabsmycat: there is a air vent for the hob, but that would come into the kitchen and drip on my cooker, but it's lower than the area where the noise is coming from.If the plumber doesn't find anything,I'm going to look a right one.
