He is 1 1/2 years old, and is a very clean dog. He doesn't like wet things or muddy things, but he does smell a little. We have a baby gate at the staircase which is the barrier between downstairs, floor, and upstairs, which is carpet. I don't think he will destroy anything upstairs as he is extremely well behaved, and I think it will be great if he was really part of our family and allowed to go anywhere he wants, or anywhere we are.
My parents disagree. They say he will bring his dirty paws onto the carpet, and he will also make the carpet stink like his bedding does. They are afraid he will pee and poop upstairs too!
Should come upstairs? What should I say to my parents to persuade them? It's their house, their decision and I respect that, but maybe they want to deep down? (They did consider it a few times...)
