Running an AC motor from the wall? (need resistor?)?

Carpet Floors - the soft and comfortable side of living.

Hey guys - I recently took apart an old vacuum cleaner, and I have the motor that's used to run the carpet brush.

I want to use it in a home project, but I don't know...

a.) can I solder the motor to some wires that can plug into the wall, and run it? (do i need a resistor? power reduction/regulation?)

b.) do you know of any resources where I can read more about this? (i really don't know where to start)

Thank you so much!
The tricky thing is that it is a secondary motor in the system; the vacuum had a main 'sucking' motor, and this was the secondary brush motor - that's the source of my uncertainty
