Questions about pets (especially small ones)?

Carpet Floors - the soft and comfortable side of living.

I'm 16 years old and I'm still in year 11.
I've never had a pet before in my life and I would really like one but I want to make sure I don't buy the wrong pet for me. I've done a lot of research but I'm still unsure.

1. Guinea Pig
This is the pet I'm considering the most, apparently they rarely bite and are quite friendly pets.

However, I've read that you need large homemade cages for them but I live in a flat and I do not have space for a cage thats the size of a country!
I've looked at petsathome.com and this cage (although it looks small the customer reviews say its pretty big)
www.petsathome.com/shop/rabbit-140-gui nea-pig-and-rabbit-cage-by-ferplast-1597 6 , could I buy that cage and a run so that it could run around for an hour per day or something?

Apparently you need to buy two guinea pigs I think I could handle two but I'd prefer one.

I heard that the cages of the guinea pigs smell and not the actual guinea pigs. How often would I need to clean the cage so it doesnt smell at all?

2. Dogs

I've always wanted a dog, a small one obviously but I cannot get one because I have to go school and my mum goes school too (she'll soon be working after her PGCE) and I won't have the time to walk it all the time so it could poo and my mum would murder me if it pooed on the carpet ..eurgh!

3. Cats
I've also been considering a cat for a long time but I realised that cats scratch a lot and the scratches sting and I would not like to be scratched so I've dismissed this idea.

4. Rabbits

Do you need to get a hutch for a rabbit? can you just train it to be like a cat and it can just roam around the house maybe with a small little place it can go if it wants peace and quite or is that really difficult because I do not have a garden and I can't provide a big enough cage for a rabbit to live inside.

5. Dwarf Hamster
I've pretty much discarded the idea of a dwarf hamster because they are not very friendly animals and they can bite you a lot plus they're fast and hard to handle. Also dwarf hamsters apparently smell a lot which I wont be able to handle.
