Hi,
I have a 9 week old border collie puppy, who is lovely and has a great nature in every way. I have one problem with him, which is that he seems to love to urinate and poo on carpets/rugs etc.
We live in a house where the downstairs is mainly wooden and have had only 1 wee and 2 poo accidents, but have had a few more on carpets. However, presently, we are house sitting for my Mum whilst she is away, my Mum is an interior designer had although still has wooden floors, she has so many rugs I am loosing count of them! My puppy has had so many accidents on them in the last 12 hours it's beyond a joke. I cannot work out whether he is trying to mark them with his scent or whether he thinks it's comfortable to urinate and poo on. The problem is that it is not just one rug, it's every single one of them, we've had multiple accidents on all of them, both wee and poo.
I am taking my puppy outside for a wee virtually every half an hour to an hour and praise him profusely each time he does it outside and each time I catch him doing it on a carpet, I am instantly picking him up and putting him outside and yet he's not doing it outside after having started on the carpet.
At home he's been very good at holding himself and going outside as long as he is in the wooden floored area of the house. At my Mum's, he is going sometimes when I take him outside.
I'm not sure what else I can do, has anybody had similar experiences? Any tips/suggestion would be greatly appreciated.
Forgot to add that puppy has been seen by the vet and has been given the all clear.
I am crate training him at night and he has no difficulting in holding it overnight as his crate is always both clean and dry in the mornings, which is why I am wondering if it is a marking issue?
