My Fiance and I have been renting the top floor flat in an old 17th century house since feb 09, ever since we moved in we have had nothing but problems with leaks etc, firstly our lounge carpet grew mushrooms due to the fact the water from the shower wasn't draining properly and it was running along the floorboards into our lounge, after numerous calls to the letting agent, finally a plumber was sent out who fitted a new plug and sealed around the bath with mastic and that was that, but since august, where the floor in the bathroom had become wet, it has visibly began to sink under the lino, we have contacted the letting agents many times only to either be fobbed off or ignored, nearly four months on ( and four months rent later) they still have done nothing, the bathroom floor next to the bath was completely soft and finally today, on going to use the shower, my foot slipped through what I believed to be a hole, and on furher inspection on pulling the lino up, there is a hole about 9 inches accross in our bathroom floor.
Can anyone suggest what our plan of action should be now? Obviously it has been reported immediately but we have been told there is nobody to deal with it right now- what can we do? do we have any specific rights as tenants?
