Some nights around 1-2 am the upstairs neighbours stamps on the floor making me jump out of my skin because it's so quiet!
His complaint is that he can hear me typing and the hum of my computer. He has been here 6 years and didn't get a peep out of him for the first 4 years. When it first started it was the music or speech so I used headphones. Then the keyboard so I changed keyboard and put a towel under it. Next it was the hum of the computer so I moved it's position. He won't say anything to me unless I confront him about it when I see him in the street. The first I know about him being upset is several viscous stamps on the floor.
To give you an idea of the volume of noise I'm making I can here the tick of my clock over the computer and you'll know yourself how much noise a keyboard makes.
It is 1-2am but I have worked like this for the previous 13 years I've lived here. I write software and work most nights till 3-4am.
I get a floor stamping about once every couple of months.
The house is 1900, so it's wooden floors over which he has no carpet, in central London but on a very quiet street.
The tenancy says "the tenants' rights to quiet enjoyment of the premises." but it's got to like I'm living under the sword of Damocles.
Options
1) Ridicule him. He's highly strung and socially inept.
2) Ignore him. In the hope that he makes an official complaint.
3) Complain about me not getting 'quiet enjoyment of the premises'.
