He is almost 13 and his room has to have warning notices on the door its so dirty. I have tried everything to encourage him to make it a little tidier and cleaner but I seem to be banging my head against a brick wall.
He leaves clothes, both dirty and freshly ironed, on the floor along with empty juice cartons, wrappers and fruit peel, that's apart from lumps of sticky substances I just don't want to know about!
He has no carpet and I know he wants one so I said if he could show me for just 3 weeks that he can keep his room reasonably tidy (I don't expect miracles) I would buy him one. That didn't work. I switch from leaving him to do the room to going in there wearing a bio suit for protection and cleaning it myself.
Even his friends have pitched in when it got really bad.
I cant leave it until we start getting invaded by cockroaches or worse but I have no idea how to deal with this any more
Help please!!!!
He is a typical teenager in every other way too, I accept all that goes with it but his room drives me crazy.
I would particularly like to hear from other teens who can tell me what would motivate them to keep their room clean
Thanks to all who have suggested throwing stuff out. If I did that there would be nothing left.
Thanks for that LULU but tried it, he doesnt get embarrassed at all and he loves it when his friends help, it saves him the trouble
Admiral Ackbar...tried that too sweetie, I have thrown out loads of stuff. He is cross at the time then gets over it. He now has about 3 t shirts to go through the summer with!
KATE.. Thanks for the suggestion but I gave him 3 weeks to KEEP his room tidy not to GET it tidy.
USMC We have stopped him eating in his room but he smuggles stuff up there. He is very resourceful!!

PLUS SIZE PANTHER I like your way of thining sweetie. Taking his door away would traumatise him. Its better than abolishing pocket money which is what I was considering
