I have a situation with an old landlord. He is basically not pleased with the cleanliness i left the place in and wants me to give him some money to cover costs even though he has already given me my deposit money back.
I moved out of the flat last week. We gave the place a good clean over and rented a carpet cleaner machine to do the carpets with. We where confident that the place was up to the same standard as when we arrived. The landlord came and had a look and said everything was fine and gave me back my deposit and that was that but a week later he phoned me up and went mad at me down the phone saying that he had to spend 3 days cleaning the place up to get it back to standard and that he would never have given me my money back if he had checked the place over properly the first time round. He demanded that i put an offer of money in an envelope and post it back through the flat letter box to cover costs.
This left me a little bit upset because if there had been any kind of problem i would of done my best to put things right when he came and inspected the place. People have told me that i dont have to give him any money if i dont want because he had already visually inspected it and said it was fine but the guy is a 'friend of a friends' Dad and i cant help but think that i should put some money in an envelope just to keep the peace
has anybody had any kind of similiar situation from renting privately??
