I have a 17 month old female tabby cat, she was spayed at 4 months and we moved home in August last year. I've had no problems with her at all, but over the last 4 or 5 weeks she has taken to crying constantly behind our living room door and at the front door.
She has always been an indoor cat and has plenty to keep her occupied, she always has access to each room in the flat, and has clean water, litter, fresh food, scratching post etc available to her. We live in a communal flat where there are 3 other flats aswel as our own and we thought perhaps she wanted to explore so we let her into the hallway where she just rolled around for about half an hour before coming back inside on her own, we've also let her out onto our balcony on two or three occaisions on a cat lead to explore but she run's straight back into the flat and doesn't like it out there one bit!
We really don't know what to do, if she's not asleep or playing she's sat at the front door crying or behind the living room door crying at the wall. She's also waking up regularly at 4-5am and just continuously cries every morning! We've had the vet check her over who says she is lovely and there is nothing medically or physically wrong with her, we've used the feliway plug in and spray on his recommendations but she licks it so we've been told to stop using it, we've also confined her to a room for 24 hours (again as per the vets advice) but she sits at the door crying and scratching to get out! We've ignored her when she does it so that she knows she doesn't get any attention from it but she just gets louder and scratches the carpet!
Can anyone help or advise what we can do to settle her down as we're out of ideas and can't cope with getting up at 4am every day and this behaviour is completely out of character for her!
We've tried introducing her to a playmate as we wanted another cat so we got a 10 week old male kitten but after a week she still wouldn't accept the new kitten so we had to give the new addition to a family member, as for letting her out, we have tried this on a couple of occaisions but she just doesn't like being outside...
