He is 5 1/2 yrs old, never had bad health, has proper daily diet, and clean water (daily), clean cage, correct 10uvb bulb, correct style thermometer, and basking bulb, his cage is 50 gal, hes housed alone, he is 24 inches head to tail, problem in detail> yesterday morning when i went to wake him up, (he has under tank heat pad on one side at night no nite bulbs) he runs on 12/12 time he was awake, but very bright yellow, with a hint of orange, (not yellow fungus type patches) solid bright coloring, yet he also seemed to have a darkened beard, not flexing it out like shedding, same sweet docile mood, he does look almost bloated? definately not dehydrated, but not extremely abnormally so, he doesn't look like hes flaring his body, just like he ate a large meal, even tho he didn't, he just wants to stretch out on my chest, put his front arms behind him and snuggle down, stills loves his baths, when held, but in his house he just seems to want to stay under his log in general tho, not cranky, but seems sleepy? found a vet that is excited to see him, (we live in rural ND) but his appointment ins't until next Thurs (its Sun) I talked to the vet on her emergency line and she thinks (obviously unseen) that it may be a brumation? I have never had him go through one, and this is my first beadred dragon, but do know that the darkened beard can be signs of sickness and/or stress, he is having regular bowel movements, except his last bath this morning, he didn't poop, and instead layed his head and front arms on my hand and farted a tiny bubble in the water, (not trying to joke i have never seen him pass gas bubble it has always been stool soft but formed and tow colored not slimey or discolored) and just seemed to enjoy getting a warm bath and massage, his belly feels smooth and soft not hard lumps or masses. He doesn't seem to show visible signs of any kind of parasite, of course can't know for sure til his fecal next week, i just am frankly a worried mommy, he just seems out of character for him, and i was always told sleepiness or lethargy is NEVER a good thing. The vet told me i was probably worrying too much, hes was prob either going to brumate or was sexually mature. He has also no sores or injuries, gets calcium and supplements (no not calci sand, i gut load his cicks or occassiona. superworms, on certain salads he will eat it shaken on) he has aquarium fake style carpet, nothing loose or long to injest, he does not seem dehydrated, still baths comfortably daily, aswell as dips in his own pool style dish (but not today), bottle misting, he likes to drink off his snout, except today. He finished some head and neck shed last week, including eyes and throat and nostrils, hes never seemed to have a hard shed. Does perk up when he sees superworm container, but i don't want to give him any in case he is slow from unknown constipation? Not interested in his greens at all today tho, gave him his fave, romaine hearts and green leaf with carrots, but it is now wilty, he has his head under his artificial log but his body streatched out toward the basking side of his house, he has his front legs behind him, head on his ground. He doesn't appear to be completely sleeping and if I even say his name soflty will perk up and look at me. If i tickle his toes, he wiggles them he looks very healthy and bright except for the way he is acting, lethargic with the color difference. His difference is he is all over extra bright yellowish with orange and the somewhat darkend beard area. His eyes are alert when spoken to or movement ect... Is some of that normal acting for brumation? Nothing has changed habitat wise for him, other than as I said we live in North Dakota, and it got really cold the last fews days one morning the house was down to about 68 degrees, usually always around 72, so i turned the furnace up a bit, (he has heat and uvb bulb in tank, his coolest area inside in the day time it is about 77-80, his basking rocks areas hottest point is 104 (i have thermometers in each end) the vet mentioned the coolness change and in general shorter days could have made him brumate? Any ones input and advice, aswell as helpful criticism is all appreciated. I am sure there is much info I may not have included, any specifics i forgot, i do apologize, also for not knowing all that i feel i should, it seems as if there are always new things out there i am learning about bearded dragons. Thank you all for your time and input, Holly and Aramys.
