I don't really know where to start with this. It's hard to put down into words. Well, my mum is an alcoholic. She has been since I can remember. I'm 22 by the way. My dad died when I was 5, which I think made her really hit the bottle, but my grandmother says she's always had a problem with it. When I was growing up she didn't drink as much because she had my little brother and I to care for. And she did a great job of it too. But for the past 10 years the problem has worsened. She doesn't take care of herself, she hardly washes, the housework is always left to me, she's broken bones out of drunken falls, banged her head numerous times. On one occasion, when I was about 17, I had stayed the night at my boyfriend's, I went home the next morning and found blood everywhere...up the stairs, on the wall, all over the hall carpet and her pillow was soaked in it. Didn't have a clue what had happened. Tried ringing family members but no-one had heard anything. Two hours later, my mum comes home from the hospital, she was sober and told me she had fallen over on the kitchen floor and cracked her head open. From then on, I haven't spent one whole night away from home. When she's sober, I try to talk to her about her problem but she completely dismisses it, gets really stressed out and changes the subject. It's easier to talk to her about her drinking when she's drunk! That's when she admits it. But she will not get help for herself! At this present time, she is drunk out of her mind, having been out last week and spent £90 on bottles of wine costing £3.50 a bottle, so I know I won't be seeing her (real) self for a while, she has a black eye and a bruise on her head from falling over 2 days ago. I feel so helpless seeing her drink herself into oblivion. I don't like the term people often use 'rock bottom', what am I supposed to do?? wait until she needs to be hospitalised because her organs are failing on her!? or until it's too late and it kills her?? Who do I talk to? And if I spoke to a doctor, would anything actually happen if she refuses to speak to anyone!? It's making my life hard and I'm treating my loved ones unfairly because I'm in constant worry. please help if you know anything or experience(d) the same thing.
