I'm so embarrassed of my house I never have friends round. The last friend I had round was my best best friend and even then I was dead embarrassed. It's not that out house is full of crap or it's messy, it isn't, but the actual house is so small and the white paint around the house looks dirty and has scratches on it. Plus the carpets look really scabby and our sofa is completely broken and should just be thrown away. We've lived in our house for 11 years and we still have the temporary kitchen unit in and it just looks so ugly, plus the flooring looks really horrible too.
I don't know what to do, because it's really getting me down. I feel so belittled whenever I go round someone else's and their house is so nice and people usually find it rude I don't invite them round after I've been round theirs.
My mum is supposed to be looking for a new sofa now for 2 years.... but she said she's stopped looking at the moment. I feel rude saying "lets redecorate" to my parents because I feel like im insulting them.... what can I do?

PS ive just repainted my room, and it looks quite nice (apart from the carpet which is old and stained, but I don't want to ask for a new one because they paid for the paint for my room)
I can't just say "im ashamed of our house" because it's like telling them they can't keep a nice house (which is really true, but i cant say it) :P
