Okay, no I'm not lawl :P
I'm having alot of problems with my hamster, Misty. It's insane, it really is.
She has a large cage with lots of stuff to chew on inside, and yet from the moment she wakes up to the moment she goes sleep, the only thing she does is chewchewchewchew on the bars.
We got her a ball, and whenever we let her out to go in it, she'll chew on the ball rather than run in it.
We let her run around the room ball-less (LOL), and all she did was run to the corner of the room, and chewchewchewchew to get out (under the carpet though lol).
I don't think she is chewing because she's bored. We let her out loads, but half the time, when she chews and we open the cage to let her out, she will ignore the fact that the cage is open and carry on chewing.
I don't think she does it to file her teeth down either, because there are loads of things we put in the cage for her to chew on... we have wasted so much money on things that she doesn't give a toss about, it's unreal.
We've tried everything to stop her, from putting a towel over the cage, to putting lemon juice on the bars. Nothing. She just chewed a hole through the towel.
Peopl say: "Oh, it's normal hamster behaviour", yet I have never had this problem with any other hamster. She's not even interested in being held, she constantly tries to get away to chew at the floor to get out. No matter how much free space she has, she wants more. :(
It it possible for hamsters to have some sort of mental problem? She literally attacks the bars like a demon, and when I blow on her face lightly to distract her, she launch right back into biting the bars. She never bites us though.
This is making me and my partner very frustrated and very sad... it feels like she just isn't happy no matter what we do. The only thing she does use in her cage is the sand bath.
Urgh :( I want her to be happy, and not get brain damaged or get toothed in the cranium if her teeth go out of whack.
I really don't know what to do :( Besides getting a new cage with no bars (We have no money left from buying the cage she has now, and we have no fishtanks), what on Earth can I do?
The fuck? How am I crazy? I've seen alot worse on Yahoo Answers, trust me, Someone said something about sticking a hamster up their bum, so I am by far not crazy. :P
I can't get a partner for the hamster, since she is a Syrian and is a solitary breed.
@John313181- Err... why would I not feed my hamster? That's a stupid question :B
She has plenty of food, and often has veg and sometimes hamster treats.
