I have a very bad leak on my (combi) central heating system, how do I go about trying to trace it?

Carpet Floors - the soft and comfortable side of living.

House has been built twenty years now and in all this time I have had a small leak which in the past has been nothing more than a 'nuisance value' having to top the system up maybe once per couple of months or so, with no apparent signs of any leaks, but lately, the problem has become more severe.
The house is of standard construction brick and tiles, wooden floors with no pipework under the ground floor. I had a new boiler fitted professionally in 2003 and still the leaking problem occurred.
However, since Christmas,I now have to top the system up every few days filling perhaps one or two litres each time. Now this is the strange part in which I am going to need someone's help, I have been all over the house and cannot find any signs whatsoever evidence of a leak, no wet carpets, no wet ceilings, no evidence of overflow leaks. I think most of you will agree with me that this problem has gone beyond 'nuisance value' and needs to be attended to. But where do I start to trace this leak? Am in the UK. I consider myself to be a competent DIY'er. Thanks in advance.
