i rented my previous house for 2 years. After a year, i started to notice damp marks. They started in the front room and lead up to my daughters room. Also in the kitchen and the bathroom started to get black mould in it. I rang my landlord numerous occasions about this to which he came round and tried telling me t wasnt damp!!! Many calls later i was told someone would come round 2 have a look but never did.
I moved out on Friday and recieved a telephone call yesterday regarding my deposit, This is what they had 2 say - the front room needs a new carpet (its a blue crappy cord carpet) which will cost me £100?! I have the choice to paint the front room and kitchen, clean the hob, replace the broken toilet roll holder and scrub the bathroom walls with bleach!!!!
If i chose not to do this they would take a further £150 out of my deposit leaving the total at £250 deducted.
I dont have a problem doing the work but firstly i know it wont cost them £100 to replace the front room carpet and second, scrub the mould off the bathroom walls only for it to re-appear in a few days.
Where do i stand in all of this???
