i recently rescued a rabbit from poor conditions. He's a 10 week old mini lop. My problem is he hates being picked up out of his cage....the cage is in the front room as this is the main room and i want him to be able to see us and get use to us being around. Which he seems to like, he's always hopping aboutin his cage. He has no problem with you opening up the cage and doesnt mind you sitting next to it or even reaching in for a stroke. He will happily sit there to have his head rubbed. But he will not let you pick him up. I know you are suppose to let him come out on his own but i have a carpeted front room and at the min he's not litter trained. So i pick him up to bring him throught to the kitchen. Once he's back down on the floor he's fine, hopping and having a sniff about. even comes up to me sniff and nudges me for a stroke and i've only had him 2 days!! My problem is i'm not sure how to go about the hole picking up thing...i think its because his previous owner didnt handle him as often as she should have and when she did he struggled and she dropped him...this happened whilst i was there :'( when i pick him up i tend to wrap him in a blanket, i know this helps babies feel safe when there wrapped up...but does it work for baby rabbits or am i just making it worse??? He does tend to stop struggling as much.
Sorry for the long text but any ideas, hints or tips will be very welcome....i really want my fluffy little friend to trust me.
thanks for all the info guys, appreciate. Looks like its just gonna be a case of perseverance. His name is magnum!
