christmas day we woke up and the living room radiator had burst and flooded the carpet (including the presents - a wonderful christmas morning). We had an emergency plumber out within the hour to sort the leak but the whole carpet was flooded. We followed their advice to keep the windows open and heating on to dry it out as soon as possible.
On the eve of the 28th it was dry though had started to smell horrid during the last 36 hours. It really is disgusting and we can't let the kids play.
We've hired a VAX and cleaned the carpet tonight, for a while all we could smell was carpet shampoo and the staining appears to have gone, but the room stinks of mould again now its drying.
As we've washed the carpet all I can think of is shake and vac, but will that really work?
Also, we live in rented accommodation so is it our responsibility to get to smell out or can we approach the agency?
It was lack of maintenance that caused the leak, and the agencies emergency plumber that attented. We haven't heared from the agency themselves yet and hope they appreciate that we've cleaned the carpet immediately even though this is not a tenants fault.
The house still stinks, we had the carpet cleaned at 8pm on the 28th, it's now the morning of the 29th, and the leak was noticed Christmas morning and fixed by 11am.
Any advice on how to get the smell out is greatly appreciated.
