I have been looking after my sisters cat Holly for the past 4 months, she is an unfixed semi-longhaired female tortoiseshell cat. When I first looked after this cat she used the litter tray ok, occasionally she has always tended to wee near the street door or on the sofas my sister says.
Ever since I cleaned out the cats litter tray (It was very dirty) the cat now refuses to wee in the tray but still poops in it perfectly fine. I did not disinfect the tray when I cleaned it and am still using the same litter that it has always used.
The cat always wees near the street door now, at first I was worried the cat was not weeing at all but it is weeing fine because some of the mail that came through the letterbox was damp (Seems the cat wees on the mail too)
So I am wondering how would one go about teaching the cat to wee in the litterbox again. I am thinking me taking the wee out of the tray some time back has made her not want to use the tray again, because the familiar smell has gone and the wee near the street door is smelling more attractive to her.
Trouble is the street door carpet is absolutely ruined, impossible to clean. Any ideas please, thanks.
I only visit my sisters house twice a day to feed and quickly brush and care for the cat, I am not with it all day.
The cat is almost 10 years old btw, so is quite set in it's ways.
