The floor in my entrance hall has tongue and groove floorboards and I want to seal it to stop moisture getting through. I want to seal both the gaps between the floorboards and the wood surfaces.
The tongue and groove joints are either perfect, so you cannot see the join at all, or near perfect, so I think that I do not want the kind of sealant that forms a bead because it would leave lumps on the smooth surface.
Some articles on the internet suggest using polyurethane varnish. Would this waterproof the floorboards? I suppose some flexibility in the product once it has dried will be required.
The floorboards will be covered with carpet so I am not necessarily looking for something to improve their appearance, but equally I don't want to ruin the look of my nice new floorboards.
Thanks in advance for your help. If you suggest a product, please can you also tell me which brand it was if you can remember.
