I am searching for ways to deal with fleas. I really need help.
I am suffering a huge flea infestation in my home. I live with my boyfriend and his mother with three cats. I am constantly getting bit by fleas and my boyfriend is allergic so his skin is always irritated. He cannot use any of the treatments for flea bites due to a high level of eczema.
I do not like to mention this, but we are of very low income and cannot hire anyone or buy any more products. There are fleas drops, but not the expensive kind and they come in 3 different doses for all three cats. We have a few remedies such as bite treatments, flea collars, dish soap, baking soda, salt, and insect repellent. (We cannot afford anything at all). The only two rooms in our apartment that have carpet are the bedrooms. My boyfriend and I have cleared out our room so it is empty in order to really clean up, have steam cleaned the carpet in my bedroom with dawn dish soap and put baking soda and salt on the couch where I believe was the hot spots for them since we we are constantly being bit there. (Just us) His mom does not get bit, do we clean her room as well? Also if vacuuming & steam cleaning every day will have work with also bathing the cats. How often should I bath them and how often should I be steam cleaning? Our other rooms are plastic flooring & I read that the fleas do not go there, is this true? Also, we only have one cat that goes outside (he is old, and if we keep him in, he will go everywhere else but the litter box; he is going on 13 years), they all have flea collars too. The cats are all short haired except for my cat; she has medium length, though she does not seem to be suffering as much as the other two.
