My kitten is 4 and a half months old. I moved house 6 weeks ago and she seemed to settle in really well, and she started using her litter tray without any problems at all. About 2 weeks ago, I came home from work and she had weed just inside my front door (about 3 feet away from where the litter tray is). The floor is tiled. She had also gone in the litter tray as well (I had cleaned it that morning). I cleaned it up and mopped the floor and everything was fine until a couple of days later, when I woke up in the morning and she had gone in the same place in the middle of the night (again, the litter tray was clean before I went to bed). This time I used bleach to clean the floor, and again it was fine for a couple of days. Then one morning she did it while I was in the shower. I bought a bottle of spray from my local pet shop last weekend which is supposed to neutralise the odour, I sprayed it on the floor and left it to dry as instructed and she has not weed on the floor since then, up until tonight. I got home from work and she hadn't been on the floor, I went to cook my tea, took it in my lounge to eat it and when I went to take my plate to the kitchen and I caught her doing it again. I picked her up and tapped her nose, told her 'No' and took her straight to the litter tray, then cleaned and sprayed the floor again. Then about half an hour ago she came into the lounge, started sniffing around and then crouched down ready to wee on the carpet (she has never weed in the lounge before). I shouted 'No' and she ran straight to the litter tray and finished weeing in there. She has never done a poo anywhere other that the litter tray. I am at my wits end and I don't know what else to try, does anyone have any suggestions?
Hi cobweb - I have used the same litter since I have had her (8 weeks), she has not had any problems with it before but I might try changing it to see if that helps :-) I don't use bleach to clean the tray, I use a spray called 'Clean and Safe' from the pet shop.
Everything I have explained above happened over 2 weeks, I don't really know how often cats are supposed to wee, I would say she probably goes 5/6 times in a 24hr period, is this a lot?
mtwaites - I will definitely try giving her treats when she does use her litter tray, hopefully she will learn that litter tray = delicious treats!
