Having recently moved my cat is taking time to get used to his new home, unfortunately this has meant him sitting outside my bedroom door (if closed) and yowling and scratching at the wood/carpet until I let him in...This usually means I get very little sleep. Recently I started shutting him in the kitchen diner (where it's warm, he has a covered - very clean - litter tray, water and food) at night, but he continues to yowl constantly. He is very noisy and I am afraid that it's going to give the neighbours cause to complain...how can I calm him enough that he stops making very loud use of his vocal chords all through the night? I know that this likely sounds cruel, but this is a rental property where I can't afford to pay to replace any carpet he destroys, or risk him continuing to pee and defacate behind my television cabinet - and if I want to keep my job I need more than an hour of sleep before I get clawed in the face by my persistant moggy.
Unfortunately having him sleep in my room is one of the problems...he decides at 4am (and this went on for the whole of the first week - until I shut him in the kitchen with food, bed, water etc) that he would climb all over me and scratch my face to wake me up - this would be fine if I didn't have to get up at 6 to go to work...
