Ok so i moved into these college apartments with three of my friends whom i didn't know very well in august.
well about a month and a half ago adam, a friend of one of the girls i live with, came over and brought his hookah. There were 6 of us and we all went into rachel's room where we all participated in smooking the hookah.
shortly after the sesh ended 2 of the girls and adam left rachel's room. So there was me, rachel, and her best friend left.
I picked up the hookah to bring it out of the room and give it to adam since he was leaving.
well i didn't know it was broken in the middle so when i picked it up, the top fell off resulting in the coal falling and burning the **** out of the carpet. it's not too bad but the few spots it did make are pretty deep holes.
i felt sooooo bad and immediately started apologizing and telling her i'd pay for it and saying sorry over and over and over. rachel was like it's ok don't worry it's fine, we'll take care of it at the end of the year.
well a little after that happened my other roommates and i got in a HUGE fight with rachel.
not one word had been said about the carpet since the day it happened.
now that we're in a fight she spits at my door when i'm in room, calls me the c word on a daily basis, and makes it her job to try to make my life hell, so i wasn't about to approach her about it.
well today i find i note in my room writen by rachel's mom basically saying i have 5 days to go to the office of our apartments and make arrangements to pay for it or legal action will be taken.
one of our other roommates suggested we all chip in for it since we were all smoking the hookah.
i do feel bad and feel like it's my fault but i'm not sure how it's COMPLETELY my fault since she allowed it in her room and on her floor in the first place. i was not the one that set it there, adam was and she agreed that it was ok.
it was a complete accident that i am freaking out over and have absolutely noooo money at the moment to pay for. i'm struggling enough as it is to make rent for next month.
i honestly have no idea how to handle this situation. if i wasn't possibly the most broke college student in this whole apartment complex i would pay for it no problem! the thing is i do not have the money for this and i'm really not sure if it really is completely my fault.
so please any honest answers on how you think this situation should be handled would be veryyyy much appreciated :)
