My miniature poodle pup has ear mites (i.e. shaking his head, rubbing his head on the floor and scratching, his ears are also red and show a couple of spots here and there).
I have researched into this and have now bought Johnsons ear mite treatment and started the course.
I know this is quite a common issue but I am thoroughly mortified that this has happened. I keep my dogs extremely clean and use an ear cleaner if their ears have looked unclean. We also pick the fur from our poodles ears (you have to do this with this breed otherwise the hair grows inwards and can cause other problems).
My dogs don't really come into close contact with other dogs, i.e. except maybe whilst out walking. They are both fully up to date with their vaccinations.
How did this happen? I feel so bad that there isn't something I could have done to prevent this. Both dogs are up to date with their frontline spot on. I know I need to wash ALL their bedding and treat all pets (my other poodle isn't showing signs of ear mites but I know I need to treat her anyway), should I also get some pet friendly powder and do the carpets and sofa?
Help - have you experienced this and how did you deal with it.
I want to get rid of this problem asap (as I know it can lead to all sorts of other problems). How can I completely destroy this mite from my dogs and house asap. I don't care how much it costs.
Advice and help would be greatly appreciated.

(sorry if I sound like I'm losing it but my house is so clean and tidy and I groom my pets everyday, I can't BELIEVE I LET THIS HAPPEN and have let my animals down in this way.
