We use a bissell pro heat x2 machine with bissell detergent. No awful smells before cleaning downstairs carpet, just nice aroma of detergent. Daughter and boyfriend shared the room much to my distaste, recently moved out, carpet is not even 2 years old. we have cats but are mainly based downstairs, however i have caught them trespassing on odd occasions in the bedrooms!!!.
Having just spoken to our carpet fitter he has said its the woolen felt back on the carpet, he had another customer asking the same as me and belives its a chemical reaction and as another answer said used distilled vinegar and water 50/50 , perhaps thats where am at. I ruled out the cats now as they do leave a rancid smell if they did use the carpet as a toilet,, many thanks
