I live in a rented flat, and I'm thinking of getting a cat. I'd really like some advice from people who've been in this situation themselves. Or from cat-lovers, landlords etc.
Obviously if my landlord says no, then it's not happening. But if he's ok with it, there are a couple of clauses in my tenancy agreement: I have to add two weeks' rent to my deposit, and I have to pay for the flat to be professionally cleaned and de-infested when I leave. Can anyone tell me roughly how much this will cost? Has anyone managed to get this clause waived by their landlord? All the furniture is mine, so I'll be taking it with me when I leave. And only one room and the hall are carpeted. So professional cleaning seems a bit excessive when I'd have to give the whole flat a thorough cleaning anyway, just to get my deposit back.
My other question is, just how much damage can a cat do? Could I expect the wooden floor and doors to get heavily scratched?
