Hey,
I currently rent a one bed flat in the UK. There is no gas, only electricity and I have one storage heater in the living room which is fairly expensive to run but heats the living room well enough. The heat doesn't make it to the bedroom however and there's nothing but a plug in electric heater which is FAR too expensive to run and doesn't even heat the room.
I can't even sleep in my bedroom, I'm having to sleep on the sofa as in the bedroom it's so cold I can see my breath. I don't have a thermometer to get the actual temp but it's hardly warmer than outside. I have a heated underblanket on the bed which isn't really enough, i sleep in full PJS and a hoody and 3 blankets and a duvet and it's still freezing.
Estate agents say landlord is doing enough by just having a decent heater in one room, is this really the case? I'm paying 540 a month rent (plus 150 council tax, approx 60 in electricity!) for a one bedroom flat where i can only use the living room for living and sleeping! Doesn't seem fair.
I know I saw the flat before I moved in, I knew there was only an electric heater in the bedroom but I had no idea my (ground floor) flat would get so cold and just assumed as there was one heater in the living room that it would suffice to heat the whole flat. The floors laminated and not carpeted which doens't help. Just wondering if I have any rights or what more I can do as the estate agents are no help and I have no contact details for the landlord to plead my case myself.
