Hi I rented a property for 9 months, the bond was £700 I handed the property back yesterday in excellent condition apart from I had completely forgot to wipe the windows over and maybe a few skirtings under radiators, these won't dirty or anything just a little dust. the carpet in the main bedroom was already on it's last legs but I had put a very minor hair straightener mark on it, the rental company asked me why I hadnt' had the carpets shampooed I said they didnt' need cleaning they were as they were when I moved in, she said they will have to charge me for a new carpet, and for the other carpets to be professionally cleaned also they would have to get a cleaning company in to go over the house!!!! the house didn't need anymore cleaning I spent all weekend doing it, maybe a quick wipe over where I had missed but it was cleaner than when I moved in myself. Anyway all this will be coming off my bond. I think this is very unfair and I'm guessing they will buy a highly expensive carpet and instruct the most expensive cleaners and not give me any of the bond back at all, What Can I do???? they said it was in my terms to clean the carpets but they really didn't need it! and the carpet was on it's last legs anyway i'm just been made to pay for it, the rental company is a well known company not a private landlord.
