I recently called a company about getting my carpets cleaned, booked my appointment, then due to deciding to get the carpets replaced instead i called and cancelled the appointment a couple of hours later. The lady on the phone told me that i would have to pay the full price as a cancellation charge £70 and that this was detailed on the companies website. Now i had never even looked on the website, i booked by telephone and nothing was mentioned before or at the time of booking, so i suppose my question is... is this a valid fee? Do i need to pay it if i wasnt warned of it beforehand? I have printed off proof that the telephone number of the company is available on google search for carpet cleaners in coventry without actually entering into the website, would this count?
ive just spoken with consumer direct and according to the distance selling regulations then they would have had to gve me these details about cancellation, and also given it in writing which they did not do, and so i shouldnt have to pay the cancellation fee. Fingers crossed!
