i'm 29 week pregnant at the moment and have been reading a lot about toxoplasmosis. My hubby and I used to have a kitten. He had really bad hygiene and would usually mess up his litter box (flicking out his poos). I do not handle the litter box. My hubby was the one who did it but he only changed it once every 2 weeks! Sometimes the litter box could be so full that the kitten would just poo outside of it and i would then have to clean it. We didn't let him out until 2 months before i got pregnant. He did hunt rodents :( My hubby had really bad hygiene as well. there were a few time he didn't wash his hands after changing the cat litter and he would touch the door handle and use the computer after that. Once i found out about toxoplasmosis, I gave the kitten away at 11 weeks. I'm so worried that i might have contracted toxoplasmosis. There might still be some oocyst lying around the house (although we replaced our carpet after we gave away the cat). My midwife said the risk was low as long as i did not ingest the cat faeces but how would i know if i have ingested it in the past! the parasite is so small! My ultrasound scans at 12 and 20 weeks didn't pick up any defects but i'm still worried. My hubby said there's no point to do a blood test as i'm already 29 weeks and we can't undo the damage. What shall i do? I'm so worried!!!!!!!!!! NHS does not do a routine screening for toxoplasmosis and i can't afford private health care.... i'm on the verge of breaking down!!!!
