Do I have the right as a tenant to ask my landlord for repairs? ?

Carpet Floors - the soft and comfortable side of living.

I have just moved into a flat and pay £1000pcm so it's not cheap! I have discovered since moving in a number of problems with the bathroom. He said before we moved in that he has no problem changing the carpet in the bathroom to a Lino mat. He did this however just laid the new Lino sheet straight over the old carpet underlay! I new this was wrong and so took up the underlay and had the Lino laid properly. Upon doing this the main problem with the bathroom arose, because the bathroom had carpet it must have held a lot of water because the underlay beneath and the wood floor beneath was rotten! the Lino floor now has dips, and the bath panel is rotten along the floor. He had some tiles changed recently and the grout and mastic has all split! a builder tells me it's because the bath is not secure because of the wet.
Does the landlord have to repair all this? Or is it cost to me? any help will really help thanks.
and what is the best way to ask the landlord?
Thanks.
