My mum's dog loved the cat, the cat loved him, although she'd never admit it, if she thought we weren't looking she'd cuddle up to him, kiss him, clean him etc, if she knew we were looking, she'd attack him, her fave thing to do was dig her claws into both sides of his bits and bite. he never hurt her, just whimpered till she let go and then they were 'friends' again. The cat had to be put down in 2008 and i honestly thought the dog would die from heat break. the cat had a box she sat on next to him in the kitchen, where he slept (BIIIIG kitchen come diner, underfloor heating, part staff who likes the taste of wallpaper and carpet if given half the chance) And for about 6 months after he would spend all day and night with his head on this box quietly crying, then he started moving about more but got her blanket to his bed and 'cuddled' it. He still does now and whenever anyone sits in 'her' place in front of the fire he STILL 'tells us off' (sorta comes over and nudges us to move, but doesn't lay there when we do). So do you think he was mourning the loss of his 'friend'? Could he still be? Also, will he recognize her name? whenever anyone says hello to her (we have her ashes in a box on display she really was a much loved pet, non of us would've managed really if we didn't) his ears prick up, he gets excited, and then he'll go back to 'cuddling' the blanket for a bit.
