I'm in my first year at University, and I'm staying in a ground floor room in the halls of residence. I have a walk-in shower in my room. I recently pulled my bed away from the wall to hoover underneath it (yes! wow! a student that cleans!) and I found a large, thick, black patch of mold. On further inspection around my room I've also found a patch behind my wardrobe, which has also taken over a corner of carpet and is now black, and some round the window frames. I reported the matter and they are sending someone to bleach the walls tomorrow. They think it is caused due to condensation when I have a shower, however I'm not so sure as I always put my extractor fan on whilst in the shower and open my windows afterwards to avoid them steaming up. And the mold is only building up on the outside walls, I have none on my adjoining walls. How do I manage the mold in the future? Is a de-humidifier a good buy - and if so should I have to buy it? And if they refuse to do anything to treat it, what are my rights as a student renting the room from them?
Thanks for your help guys! xxx
