Hi, My uncle had a woodburner installed by a qualified gas fitter. It did'nt work properly and he kept stalling to rectify the problem. My uncle contacted Gas Safe for a free check. Over 15 faults were found, fire condemned and he was forced to fit it correctly. When he done this, he cleaned the chimney with no cover and totally ruined the carpet and furnishings for the cost over £1,000. He will not pay and my uncle wants to go to court. At the moment my uncle is disabled and court will be free. However in a week or two, he will inherit over £30.000. If he puts a claim in now, bank statements need to be shown which is ok but in a few weeks when he has the money and probably in the middle of the court case, will he have to tell them his finances have changed? It could cost quite a lot and he does'nt know what to do. I think the fitter should be struck off for what he done. The photo's are horrific. What would you do??
