We've had our dog since he was 8 weeks old, and he's NEVER been smacked or hit as we don't agree with that kind of training. However, recently when we go towards him he's started cowering to the floor as though he's going to be beaten. He's always been a very dominant and confident dog with a touch of 'red-eye' where he can become vicious, which is how we know that he isn't feeling well, as that trait tends to come out in him more if he's ever ill. He can be all cuddly and loving one minute and perhaps asking to be picked up, then 20 mins later, he's flattening himself to the carpet to get away from an imagined smack. Anyone experienced this at all? Thanks!
We know he has a temper issue, but it's the cowering behaviour that is wierd now. We've adapted to his 'red-eye' or 'cocker-rage' and watch his body language so that's not really an issue. I just added that in there in case it was a factor in his sudden 'scared' behaviour.
He doesn't go out on his own, so I know that nobody could have beaten him without us knowing.
