A Vacuum cleaner with a beater bar (usually an upright) is better at removing dust from your new carpet, after all dust can make up 80% of soiling! Try vacuuming the carpet against the knap, i.e. toward the main window, then with the knap, i.e. away from the main window. To prolong the interval between professional carpet cleaning operations, you may lightly scrub the carpet floor with a stiff brush; this has the effect of releasing more dust from carpet than vacuuming alone.
No matter how hard you try, there still might be uncleanable, permanent stains in your carpet that can't be removed even by steam cleaning. However you might want to get a specialist proffesional carpet cleaner advice first.

Need help with removing extreme carpet stains...?
|
I've been spending the day moving my friend into her new house and the person who lived there before has left the carpets in an absolutely disgusting state. Carpets were once beige, I think, they're now covered in black, grotty, deeply trodden in stains. She can't afford to hire a carpet cleaner so it's a case of elbow grease

The landlord has told me i have to clean the carpets in my house to a 'professional standard' and i was going to hire a steam cleaner, but they seem to say not suitable for use on upholstery. Does anyone know if you can use them for carpets, or if there is a similar machine you can use? Thanks :)

Please could you recommend a really good but inexpensive vacuum cleaner?
|
I bought a Dirt Devil which operates without a bag, but this is absolutely useless.
I have carpets and exposed floorboards, 2 house cats - (and of course a husband;o)), and live on a farm,so the dust and hair will pile up quickly
The suction is practically non-existent and it doesn't pick up any more. I have thoroughly checked the dust
