I moved in a duplex 3years ago and it was a mess. At first, they told me 550 for the rent but then it was some work done on the patio in which the builder got created and turned the patio into a sunroom so they added an extra 25.00 to get the money back from paying the builder for the sunroom. The landlord tried to give us a nasty refrigator in which the repair man told them to get me a new refrigator because the refrigator wasn't fixable, the linen doors for the closet and pantries were eating up by the previous tenant's dogs. The doors in the bedroom had wholes in them, the place smelled like dogs and mildew. The outside patio that was turned into a sun room linked water when it rained and the storage room inside the sun room had trashed left in it, it was terrible. We asked to see another unit but they assured us all the problems would be fixed by the time we moved in. The only good thing about it was it had new carpet in which they had to replace because of the previous tenants trashed the place and the walls were painted but kinda dented up as well. They lied to us first because they said the place would be ready for move in but obviously it wasn't. So my husband and I had to clean the place from top to bottom because they claimed they sent a cleaning lady over but the place smelled awful. I constantly sent emails and took pictures of the place and after 5months of complaining, they finally tooked care of most of the problems. Then we had a major problem, when it would rain the sunroom would flood, my sofa and rug was ruined. I sent email and asked what were they going to do about my ruin sofa and rug, Of course they did absolutely nothing. They sent someone out and we were informed it couldnt be fixed because the person who built the sunroom didn't seal the corners between the wall and floor panel and because of the leak i couldn't enjoy my sunroom that i was paying an extra 25.00 for. Throughout the years, we continue to had problems with this place and just decided to move out after 2.5 years. We gave the landlord 30day notice and even had the carpet professional clean. In which the apartment wasn't clean when we first moved in. We received a letter in the mail stating they were keeping 75% of our deposit because it was writing on the wall in which me nor did the inspector who did the walk thru with us didn't point out the writing and in one of the bedrooms the spots would not come out. It wasn't like it was hair dye, bleach stains, pet stains, or holes in the carpet, it was normal wear and tear. I asked to see the spots because when me, my husband and the inspector looked at it, the spots wasn't so bad, they wouldn't. The property manager was so rude and even said i was aggravating her. The place looks like a dump and doesn't even look like its worth what they are holding from my deposit. I want to know if i can sue them for my deposit and also for the extra 25.00 i was paying for the sunroom i couldn't enjoy because of the flooding when it would rain.
