Can my landlord change the amount he is requesting to deduct from my deposit?

Carpet Floors - the soft and comfortable side of living.

I moved out of the rented house two weeks ago. My ex-landlord has written to me and wishes to deduct £95.25 from my deposit for carpet cleaning and oven cleaning (£40.25 for carpet and £55 for oven). I did offer to spend more time on cleaning the oven but he refused to let me.

I feel that the carpet marks fall under normal wear and tear. I told him this and he has replied saying that he could charge us for £320 for all charges he has incurred (including cost of inventory fees). I was in the property for 8 months and the landlord had advised me that the carpets were not professionally cleaned when we moved in. The marks on the carpet are in the walkways.

My deposit is being held with the DPS.

Would appreciate any help on this....Thanks
