We paid an Admin fee for a rental (uk) and half of a deposit on a house rental.
We paid only half deposit because they had builders in and was still being decorated, fixed from previous tenant.
The agency had done their checks the week before and said that work still needed to be done and they informed the landlord. It is not a managed property so they said all they can do is pass this information on to the landlord to get it fixed.
They said that the landlord seems to be okay and they have not heard of any complains from previous tenants.
However, the day before we were due to move in quite a lot of stuff still needed to be done i.e. light bulbs, hanging sockets, carpet needed tacking down, cleaning, and so on.
We asked that we meet the landlord halfway since time was running short and said we would get it done if she reduces the first months rent... she came back saying no and will get it done over the next few weeks and if we don't like it then put it back on the market.
We got the deposit back off the agency but feel that our Admin fee was stolen from us as we did not gain anything back i.e. a house to rent and we put faith in the agency to ensure that we had a house to move into but we feel they have let us down.
Do you think we should get all or even half the Admin fee back? If only for our inconvience of going through the process and not getting anything out of it.
