Carpet Floors - the soft and comfortable side of living.

Fed up, and worried!!!!

My 18 month old was always a good sleeper, sleeping 13 hrs at night and 2 in the day (longer if I let her!)

But for nearly a month now she has been refusing bed and naps and it keeps getting worse.

She has now started throwing her teddy out of bed. There's no way she'll sleep without it, so I have to return it to her. She tries this for a while, then starts throwing HERSELF out of bed! Thankfully she is only in a toddler bed and has a carpeted floor, but it scares me senseless.

I have tried everything - moved her bedtime from 6.30pm - 7pm, made sure she only naps for 2 hrs between 12-2pm, up at 7.30am.

She has a sippy cup of water with her (but she started throwing this, so now I take it to her at 10pm when she's asleep and we go to bed), fresh nappy, teddy, pain medicine for teething... nothing works.

She was teething for a week or 2, but as far as I can tell, she isn't teething atm.

She is fine in the day, no separation anxiety. It is only at naptime and bedtime.

Today it has taken me an hour to get her to go down for a nap, and in the end I just left her to it for 5 mins and she's now asleep outside her door (we have a safety gate on the stairs)

It is driving me mad, it can take anything from 20 mins - 3 hrs to get her to bed, and some days she misses a nap altogether because I spend 2 hrs trying to get her to have it! DH and I go to bed at 10pm, but often I am eating my tea at that time and then going to bed late because I've been trying to get her to bed. I get no time with DH and certainly no time to put my feet up.

The supernanny method of returning her to bed worked well, until she started throwing herself out of bed.

I can't understand why she is doing this, she always slept so well since she was 8 weeks old!

I can't send DH to settle her as she goes bananas and screams for me, she only ever wants me to settle her, which means I don't get even 2 mins rest. I don't think it's SA because she's fine in the day if I leave the room to get a drink etc.

Nothing seems to make a difference either - if she misses a nap, has a shorter nap, longer nap etc - it still can take anything from 20 mins -3 hrs to get her to bed.

Last night she was soooo tired from not having a nap, she was falling asleep downstairs, but it still took 45 mins to get her to stay in her bed and stop screaming the house down.

She has also started getting up at 6am and getting into our bed, then either sleeping til her normal 7.30am, or jumping about and playing til we get up.

I don't want a safety gate on her door as I want her to be able to come to me if she really needs to. She can't get anywhere else apart from our bedroom as the handles are too high for her to reach on the other rooms and we have a gate on the stairs.

Any advice?
