My friend lives a very alternative lifestyle and isn't interested in doctors unless she is basically forced into it. Her children were 'freeborn' (at home without medical personel) and they don't have checkups, vaccinations, medicines etc. She is a good friend so I would be grateful if you wouldn't judge her - while I personally disagree with the way she parents, she does it in truly the best intentions.
Her 1 year old can only sit up with support and cannot crawl yet. He can sort of drag himself along laminate floors, but won't try on carpet/rug etc. Is it developmentally a problem yet? I don't want to intervene and insult her, but I may mention it if I suspect he actually needs to see a professional.
He seems to be a happy baby in every other way.
I wouldn't call it neglect unless the kids were in actual danger, and I don't believe they are. If one of them had some sort of severe medical condition, then yes - but they're happy and seemingly healthy children (this apparant developmental delay aside).
It probably sounds worse than it actually is, but she's a very loving, caring mother who genuinely believes that her children benefit from a more natural lifestyle. Although I think she can be a little blinkered to some things, she is in no way malicious or uncaring.
